FOUR intrepid adventurers explored a sacred lost city.

John and Jane White, together with Clive and Di Groves, from Bridport, have just returned from Colombia where they visited the Lost City, a sacred city of stone built in 800AD.

The group embarked on an arduous journey, trekking for four days in hot and humid conditions through jungle and the Sierra Nevada mountains of Northern Colombia.

Carrying full backpacks and assisted by a local crew, the they had to cross many rivers, endure countless thunderstorms and trek through the night to complete their challenge.

Covering 75km on a hilly tracks, culminating in 1,200 stone steps to reach the Lost City, the challenge raised £600 for the Living Tree cancer support charity by way of donations and from selling

homegrown produce on Clive’s charity table at the Groves garden centre.

John said: “We proudly carried the Dorset Flag and a copy on

the News to mark the achievement

“It was a tough trek but a fantastic experience in a beautiful country where the local communities and the Colombian people were so friendly and welcoming.”

The Lost City lies in the mountains of Sierra Nevada, declared Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1979, bordering the Caribbean

Sea on the north coast of Colombia.
