Lyme Regis Development Trust (LRDT) has welcomed a financial boost of more than £24,000 from the Coastal Revival Fund.

Government funding of £24,500 has been awarded to the trust to modernise The Hub and enhance the entrance to the historic building on Church Street, making it accessible for multi-purpose use.

LRDT is one of 25 organisations across the country to receive a share of nearly £1million via the Coastal Revival Fund.

The fund provides grants to restore and upgrade coastal landmarks and bring economic growth to local communities.

Cllr Daryl Turner, who represents Lyme Regis and Charmouth on West Dorset District Council, said: “This is excellent news.

“The Hub is a much-cherished venue that provides a wide range of activities and opportunities for young people and the wider community.

“This funding will support the excellent work of LRDT and help to ensure The Hub is inclusive and accessible to all, opening up opportunities for young people and adults alike and boosting the venue’s status as a focal point in the community.”

Weymouth and Portland Borough Council was also a winner, receiving £50,000 to help refurbish seven Grade II listed shelters on the promenade.

Coastal Communities Minister, Jake Berry, said: “It is fantastic to be able to kick-start the restoration of 25 sites up and down our great British coastline.

“From Whitehaven to Weymouth, we are saving some of the nation’s most cherished coastal heritage assets and landmarks from falling into disrepair.

“The coastal Revival Fund also helps regenerate our coastal communities and support them to grow by bringing these sites back to life and making them the focal points of their communities once more.

“It is all part of our plan to invest nearly a quarter of a billion pounds in our seaside areas by 2020, providing thousands of jobs, training places and opportunities up and down the great British coast.”
