A MAN has been sentenced to jail for 12 weeks after failing to stop following a car crash in Bridport.

Sebastian Stasiczak, aged 39 from Bridport, appeared at Weymouth Magistrates Court on Monday charged with six driving offences.

The charges include driving while being unfit through drink or drugs, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence, failing to stop after an accident, aggravated vehicle taking, drink driving and driving without insurance.

The incidents happened on Sunday evening.

At 5.28pm, Dorset Police received a report of a two-vehicle crash near to The Crown roundabout on the A35 at Bridport.

It was reported that one of the vehicles involved had left the scene.

A white Ford Transit van believed to have been involved in the collision was subsequently located in Broadoak Road.

PC Richard Winward, of Bridport Police, reported that the van drove the wrong way around the roundabout before hitting a BMW and driving off with only three tyres and ending up on its side.

The road was closed while the vehicle was recovered and was reopened at around 8.50pm.

Stasiczak was then arrested on suspicion of the driving offences and assisted police with their enquiries.

He was then charged before appearing at magistrates’ court on Monday, where he pleaded guilty to the offences.

He will serve a 12-week prison sentence and has also been disqualified from driving for 36 months.
