A vote of no confidence has been triggered after Consevative MPs say they have lost faith in the Prime Minister.

Theresa May will now face a fight for her leadership as at least 48 members of her own party have sent letters the chair of the 1922 Committee expressing they have lost confidence in her.

Here's what Conservative MPs from Dorset have to say on the upcoming vote:

North Dorset MP, Simon Hoare said he was 'appalled' and would be backing the PM.

“I am supporting her. I think it’s terribly self-indulgent and I think people have taken leave of their senses and members of the public will be looking on with a great pair of raised eyebrows saying ‘what the hell is going on’ what are they hoping to achieve , this is a toddlers tantrum that we are dealing with and it’s got to stop,” he said.

Mr Hoare added it was not a case of Mrs May ‘surviving’ but whether she would win.

"Yes, she will win and under the rules of the party another leadership election cannot be triggered for another 12 months.

"So they will have shot their fox and part of the problem is that we have people who are mixing up worries over Brexit with what is personal animosity to the Prime Minister they have allowed their personal animosity, either because she didn’t give them the job, they weren’t offered a job, they had a job and she took it off them and they are allowing their personal animus to cloud their judgement and I think the party as a whole and the country at large will look upon them pretty poorly.

“People don’t want all this.”

He said he’d be spending the day drumming up support for the PM.

Speaking to Sky News earlier, he added: "I know it is the Christmas period but the leadership of the country is not a toy for people to be playing with.

"I would urge my colleagues to grow up; the country will be looking askance at this.

"I think she will (survive it) but if she doesn't Article 50 will have to be extended. This is a long process."

MP for West Dorset, Sir Oliver Letwin also confirmed he will be backing the PM "wholeheartedly".

"This is not a time at which our country will benefit from a change of Prime Minister. I shall be backing Theresa," Mr Letwin said.

South Dorset MP, Richard Drax said he would not be making comment on the vote of no confidence at this time.

"We are now in th eposition we are in and we are going to have to work with whatever tonight's results are so I shall be saying nothing for the time being," Mr Drax said.

However, in a diary entry on his website yesterday, Mr Drax said he would "not be surprised" if a vote of no confidence was triggered.

He wrote: "I am saddened that we and the country are facing such humiliation.

"I am desperately sad to see our party in the position it's in, but it could and should have been very different.

"We certainly live in interesting times and no one can really predict what happens next."
