THE team behind Dorset Blue Vinny cheese is celebrating an award-winning year.

Most recently, the cheese was awarded gold at the World Cheese Awards in Bergen, Norway, in November, which showcase the best cheeses from across the globe.

More than 3,700 cheeses from 41 different countries were entered into the awards, with the top cheeses being awarded a gold, silver or bronze award.

Emily Davies, of Dorset Blue Vinny, said: “We had been having an encouraging year so thought, why not give it a go and enter.

“We were thrilled when the list of winners was announced and there was a big ‘gold’ next to our name.”

This followed on from being awarded ‘best blue’ and ‘people’s choice’ at the Great British Cheese Awards in October.

The cheeses were voted for by the public before facing a panel of judges where Dorset Blue Vinny came out on top in both classes.

In September, The Dorset Food, Drink and Farming Awards honoured Michael Davies of Dorset Blue Vinny with the ‘food and drink hero’ award for his contribution to the Dorset food industry over the past 35 years.

Dorset Blue Vinny was also awarded ‘best product’ at the awards, which Michael and his wife Christine attended.

Michael said: “It was such a lovely surprised to win not one, but two awards.

“It was a fantastic night, thank you to everyone at Dorset Food and Drink and the rest of the team who helped put on such a super evening of celebrations.”
