Fully immerse yourself in the spirit of Christmas as a spectacular festive event comes to a Weymouth green space.

St Aldhelm’s Church and the Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens invite the community to take part in Nativity on the Move.

The immersive event was the idea of St Aldhelm's rector, Revd Nick Clarke, and will see guests make their way through the gardens, lit by candles and torches, to follow the story of the nativity.

The moving scenes will follow Mary, Joseph and their donkey on their long trek to find accommodation.

Follow the star, wonder at King Herod’s sumptuous palace and meet the innkeeper who turned Mary and Joseph away.

The three wise men will be making an appearance to deliver their precious gifts and you can witness the shepherds' bewilderment at the arrival of Angel Gabriel as they watched over their sheep.

If that was not enough, there will also be carol singing, live music and real animals.

Sue Hogben of the Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens said: "It’ll be an unusual event that tells the nativity story outdoors, moving through the candle lit gardens from scene to scene, using amateur actors and real live animals.

"It has been a real community effort to put this together, from the church and garden members working on scenery, lighting, a script and costumes to children from the local groups and schools making lanterns for the event at a workshop last Saturday morning at St Aldhelm’s church."

Guests are reminded to come warmly dressed and bring a torch or lantern to light up the evening.

The Centenary Club will be open for people to warm up with a hot drink and use the facilities.

Nativity on the Move will take place on Thursday, December 13. The event will start at 6pm at the tennis courts car park where, somewhere lurking in the gloom, a Roman centurion will be ready to ‘escort’ you on your journey.

The event is free but any donations taken on the night will be given to the Mayor’s Christmas Fund.
