WORTHWHILE causes have received a welcomed boost thanks to carnival.

Bridport Carnival committee members presented cheques of £500 to each of this year’s beneficiaries; Chideock village hall, Bridport Bandits and The Living Tree.

At a cheque presentation event, representatives from each organisation said the donation would be put to ‘very good use’ and spoke highly of this year’s event. Cheques were presented by the Carnival Queen and her attendants.

Started in 1971, Bridport Carnival has been a firm favourite on the town’s calendar ever since and is said to be the town’s biggest, free event.

Each year, funds raised are handed out to a range of good causes.

This year was no exception, and the event and torchlight procession proved popular again this year.

Organiser Joyce Dunford said: “We’re pleased with this year’s event and with the support we received from the town.”
