This sculpture of Pudsey Bear by one of the UK’s most popular artists will be raffled off by Dorchester Art Gallery in support of Children in Need.

It comes as fundraisers in Dorset gear up for the annual appeal – and we want to know what you're doing.

Since it launched in 1980, Children In Need has raised a £950 million, helping to make a difference to the lives of children all across the UK

Dorchester Art Gallery says raffle tickets for Doug Hyde’s Pudsey sculpture, signed by the artist and valued at £345, are now on sale.

Tickets are £5 each and can be purchased from gallery at Brewery Square or at the Plaza Cinema in Dorchester. All proceeds will be donated to the Children in Need appeal.

Doug Hyde is a British contemporary artist from Bristol. His limited edition prints are hugely popular and are signed by the artist himself.

In 2005 he was described as the UK’s most popular living artist by the BBC. His style is instantly recognisable, conveying a wealth of feeling through a deceptively simple style.

Hannah Webster, from the gallery, said: “The raffle was such a huge success last year, raising hundreds of pounds, so after such a fantastic year at the gallery too it seems a good idea to run it again and do our bit to help Children in Need.

“As well as the Pudsey raffle, Dorchester Art Gallery is also inviting everyone to its Christmas weekend extravaganza starting on November 23, where we will be serving mulled wine, mince pies and festive spirit whilst showing off new art pieces and sculptures."

Meanwhile, staff at Asda in Weymouth are raising funds as part of the retailer’s 18th annual fundraising drive for the worthwhile cause.

Fundraising activity is taking place in store and in the local area, led by the Asda Weymouth Community Champion.

The theme of the activities will centre around BBC Children in Need and Asda’s campaign – ‘the Power of Play’.

An Asda spokesman said: “This year, colleagues in Weymouth will be positively Pudsey to raise both funds and awareness.

“From community Pudsey parties to cake sales and fun games, colleagues will be busy raising funds for BBC Children in Need to ensure that as many children as possible will see their lives improved by this money.”
