It looks like a new skate track is coming – and residents are being urged to get involved and support the project.

A public consultation is being held over the design of a new pump track for Wyke Regis, a project spearheaded by Cllr Kate Wheller, Weymouth and Portland Borough Council's spokesman for community facilities.

Cllr Wheller has been pushing to get the idea off the ground for several years.

Skate park company Maverick is leading the consultation and will be taking suggestions from residents over how it should look and be run.

The Poole-based company is a skater-run business specialising in the design and installation of spray concrete skateparks. It installed the Little Fairfield skatepark off Weymouth Avenue in Dorchester, which was described as “a work of art” by Ride BMX magazine.

In September, WPBC announced a £250,000 funding boost for community areas and parks in the borough.

Up to £99k of the funding was made available for a Wyke Regis BMX track for scooters and skateboards as well as bikes.

The consultation will take place at Wyke Regis Memorial Hall on All Saints road tomorrow from 7pm to 8pm.
