A SCHOOL pupil has gone under the clippers to give her hair to those who need it.

Lily Crane, age 13 from Stoke Abbott, took part in Macmillan's Brave the Shave.

Sir John Colfox Academy pupil Lily got her mum to cut off her hair, before her mum's friend shaved Lily's hair down to a few millimetres.

The reason that Lily got her mum to cut off the majority, is so it can be donated to the Little Princess Trust.

The charity provides real hair wigs free of charge to children and young adults up to the age of 24, who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other illnesses.

Lily said: "I decided to brave the shave because I was tired of talking about doing things, so I decided to just do it.

"I know it's for an amazing cause and people with cancer need by hair a lot more than I do.

"I wanted to make a difference and help people who need it.

"Some people in my family had cancer, but they got through it, and that is why I'm doing this, to help raise money for people living with cancer.

"I mean, it's just hair, I'd rather have four millimetres of hair having helped people than having hair and not doing anything with it. It will grow back anyway."

Lily set herself the target of raising £300, but has raised more than double.

Speaking before the shave, Lily said: "I am am quite nervous, but also quite excited and its great to know that I am doing it for a good cause."

To raise awareness, Lily had been giving a talk in assembly in school to try and get the message out and get donations.

Lily also had a few collection boxes which she left in the town.

A spokesman for the Little Princess Trust said: "We are absolutely delighted to hear that Lily is 'braving the shave' and donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust.

"It's such a brave decision to cut off a lot of hair but we are hugely grateful as we can use Lily's donated locks to make real hair wigs for children and young people who have lost their own hair as a result of cancer or other medical conditions.

"Receiving a wig has a profoundly positive effect on those we assist. Thank you Lily and thank you to all your supporters."

Chrissie Wathen-Neal, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support in Dorset, added: "A massive thank you to Lily Crane. We really appreciate everything Lily is doing."
