YOUNG FARMERS across the county are preparing their best acts ahead of an entertainment competition.

The Dorset Federation of Dorset Young Farmers Clubs (YFC) is hosting the competition at the Thomas Hardye School Theatre.

Members from the county's nine clubs have been busy rehearsing their acts and preparing to take to the stage at the annual event.

Also at the event, members will find out the results from the Junior and Senior member of they year awards for 2018/19, and preparations for the harvest supper will be made.

To be considered for member of the year, the individual had to not only hand in an entry form, but also give a presentation at a formal interview.

Within the presentation, the individual had to describe the experiences they had gained at club and county level, their hobbies and interests outside of YFC, and all the experiences had to have taken place within the last 12 months.

Last year's results saw Flora Coleberd from Beaminster YFC pick up the prize of Junior Member of the Year, and James Billen from Marshwood Vale YFC take the senior member of the year trophy.

Flora told the Bridport News: "I've found that since joining young farmers so many doors have been opened to opportunities that I didn't even know existed beforehand.

"Young farmers have been the bridge for me in terms of trying and having a go at new things such as public speaking, sporting events and stock judging.

"If I hadn't of joined the club, I wouldn't have gotten involved in any of these activities, which have not only boosted my self-confidence massively, but I've met countless new friends who I wouldn't otherwise have crossed paths with.

"I'm very lucky to currently hold the title of Dorset's Junior Member of the Year which is all down to simply having a go at a young farmers competition."

The entertainment competition will take place on Saturday, November 24 from 6.30pm.
