The talents of local filmmakers are set to be showcased at an event.

The first Bridflik, an evening of homegrown cinematic shorts, is set to take place in the Chapel in the Garden, with film-makers in and around Bridport invited to submit their work for the event.

It has been organised by Tom Rogers and John Butler, who are excited about the chance to showcase some of the talent in the area that usually stays under the radar.

Tom said: "There's a lot of people who work with film in a variety of different and imaginative ways.

"This gives an opportunity to bring some of our local creative talents together to meet and possibly share ideas, but also helps create a shop window for some very interesting work."

Both hope that the event will become a recurring fixture in the town's calendar.

John said: "As well as the chance to watch these films on a big screen, it's a chance to meet the film-makers (and for us to meet each other), motivation to make more films and perhaps spark new collaborations.

"Tom and me worked together on a couple of short films, such as Rogers and the Woodlouse.

"We've talked a lot about how to get them seen more, and knew that others in the area had similar thoughts about their films.

"Ultimately we decided we had to stop talking about it and just get on with it."

Film-makers confirmed for the night include Jess Burns, John Butler, Rob Casey, Tom Rodgers, Jane Saunders, Thomas Hughes, Rob Jayne, Robert Lee, Elliot Millson and Martha Moopette.

As well as the premiere showing of Tom and John's Rogers and the Woodlouse's latest production, A Day of Striped Pyjamas, the night will feature a brand new short thrilled by Elliot Millson and others, a second showing of Martha Moopette and Robert Lee's darkly humourous re-working of Frankenstein, and two new films made specially for the occasion, one by Martha Moopette, and one by Thomas Hughes and Rob Jayne titled 'How to Clap'.

There will also be music videos and spoken-word videos, each with its own unique style.

Tom said: "The response to our call for local film makers, and with regards to a potential audience, has been amazing. I'm very excited by it."

Bridflick will take place from 7pm on Sunday, October 28 in the Yellow Room at the Chapel in the Garden.

Entry is £4 and you should bring your own drink.
