When it comes to badgers, I see this week’s letters/statistics and theories may be all very well.
What I know from experience is that since badgers have made a sett at the bottom of my garden, the hedgehogs are now but skins.
Make your gardens as hedgehog-friendly as you can and hope you remain badger-less.
Your correspondent doesn’t give the percentage decline in hedgehog population numbers, which I understand is considerable.
Maybe other causes do play a part but I suspect badgers are more responsible than we like to believe.
The badger problem with gardens is a little more than a few divots in the lawn, as I know well.
