An epic trek for charity saw walkers conquer Dorset's three highest peaks in under 12 hours.

A group of 29 walkers participated in the Diverse Abilities 'The Dorset Three Peaks Challenge', which took walkers across 26.2 miles facing undulating terrain as they walked along the Wessex Ridgeway.

The three peaks included an ascent up Lewesdon Hill, Pilsdon pen and Bulbarrow Hill, accumulating a combined height of more than 1,350 feet, more than the ascent of Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain.

Natasha Wharton, who took part in the challenge, said: "The Dorset Three Peaks Challenge was an incredibly inspiring and enjoyable day. "Everyone in the group, including our experienced mountain leaders, were really supportive of one another which really helped when energy levels waned and blisters appeared.

"Over the past couple of years I've set myself various challenges raising money for charities, including challenging hikes, so when this challenge came to my attention, I had to take part.

"The company I work for, The Global Group in Bournemouth, support Diverse Abilities, so I've come to learn a lot about the difference the charity makes to people's lives and I wanted to be able to contribute that, while also doing something that I love.

"No doubt I'll be returning to take part next year."

Between them, the walkers raised more than £9,000 for Diverse Abilities, which will go towards providing vital support to children and adults living with physical and learning disabilities across the county.

Lauren McCullough, events manager at Diverse Abilities, said: "The Dorset Three Peaks Challenge was not only perfect for those that enjoy walking or love spectacular views, but for those wishing to push boundaries and be taken out of their comfort zone.

"We had a fantastic time along the way and would like to thank all participants for taking part."
