A business has celebrated raising a shed-load of money for a charity trek.

John Bright Fencing & Country Store has raised money for Weldmar Hospicecare to help a couple meet their fundraising goal to attend the charity’s 2018 Nepal Trek.

A coffee morning was held at the business in support of Carole and Jim Pitcher, and raised £930 which has contributed to the £7,000 they have raised in total.

The couple are regular supporters of Weldmar after the sad loss of their daughter Emma to cancer aged 37.

They have continued to support Weldmar to ensure these services are available to other patients and families who need them.

Beth Bright, part of the John Bright Fencing family firm, said: “We never thought we could raise almost a thousand pounds in a morning.

“We are very proud of everyone who drank tea, coffee and ate cakes to help Jim and Carol on their trek.

“Weldmar has a special place in our hearts and we’re grateful for people’s generosity, support and kindness.”

Carole and Jim joined 12 other Weldmar supporters for five days as they climbed steep terrains at altitude and sleep in basic conditions.

The couple also contributed to a local hospice in Kathmandu, offering their help with basic decorating tasks.

Matt Smith, director of fundraising and marketing at Weldmar, said: “We have held overseas challenges for six years now with the Nepal Trek and Hospice Project being our 2018 challenge.

“We had a great team of trekkers signed up for the adventure who have all raised in excess of £4,000 each to help fund our care throughout Dorset.

"These challenges are tough, they are no holiday, but all the trekkers are going through with it to help raise vital funds to continue our services across Dorset.

“We are now accepting registrations for our 2019 challenge to the Canadian Rockies, details of which are on our website.

“We are extremely grateful to all our trekkers and for John Bright for very kindly supporting Weldmar by hosting their event to support the cause.”

An information for the Canadian Rockies Trek will be held at Joseph Weld Hospice, on Tuesday, November 6 from 6pm.

The five day trek starting in Banff National Park will take place between Saturday, August 31 and Friday, September 6.

Interested participants are expected to pay a £350 registration fee and raise a minimum of £3,950 through sponsorship.
