CHAMPIONS: Marshwood won two weight categories in the Dorset Tug-of-War Championships at Burton Bradstock.

They carried off the Bob Sparry Memorial Trophy in the open catch weight event and their A team picked up the 640 kilogram title.

Marshwood landed the open title with a tremendous display of power pulling in an exciting final against Blandford.

BARKING MAD: Fifty-nine dogs competed in an exemption show organisation by Geraldine Chubb in aid of Powerstock School.

The event, which parents and friends helped to stage, raised £300 for school funds.

The judge was Chris Selmes, of Downes Walk Pets Parlour, Bridport.

Best in show was Oliver, a two-year-old Great Dane owned by Pat Robbins of Crewkerne.

Wellington, a golden retriever owned by Debbie Paull, of Bridport, was awarded the reserve trophy.

HONOURING: Tributes were paid to the brave airmen of World War Two during a service of thanksgiving at St Mary's Church, Bridport on Battle of Britain Sunday.

The occasion also marked the 75th anniversary of the formation of the RAF and the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Royal Air Forces Association.

DONATION: Lyme Regis Boy's Club has donated £50 to the town's Sports Centre Appeal Fund.

The cheque was handed to the secretary of the Appeal Fund Committee (Mr E.D. Lillington) by Geoffrey Cleal at the club's annual meeting and presentation of awards on Thursday in last week.

STAR: The arc lamps glared, the champagne cork popped, and 'Auntie Isobel' of Powerstock became a film 'star' for an evening.

Although there were big celebration's on Miss Isobel Gale's 80th birthday, it is the 81st that she will always treasure.

She was discovered by BBC television men when they came to film a documentary, and the idea of a sprightly woman of that age still running a smallholding was too good a story to miss.

CHARITY TALK: Bradpole Young Wives had an insight into the work of the NSPCC at their recent meeting.

Mr Scripps, a representative of the society, spoke to them about the various kinds of cruelty, both physically and mentally, committed against children.
