You could be forgiven if you thought you were seeing double last Tuesday lunch time as there were more than several Vicars to be spotted around the Bay.

The Lyme Bay Deanery (of which West Bay is part) was playing host to a group of nine Latvian vicars and their local guides from Wiltshire.

They were on a 'flying visit' to West Bay including a lunch stop.

After feasting sumptuously on fish and chips they were taken along East Pier to see some of the outstanding features of  our coastline.

On Sunday morning a group of enthusiastic beach cleaners discovered many plastic nurdles.

A large number of these tiny pellets, whose exact source remains a mystery, were found.

Much easier for the beach cleaners  to spot were the remnants of lost fishing gear that had been washed up on the rocks.

This was a thoroughly worthwhile effort by a group of enthusiastic volunteers - well done.

Last Sunday's Battle of Britain service held in St. John's Church had an attendance of forty people.

During the service the standards of the local RAFA Branch and other service organisations were paraded.

The Battle of Britain was fought over the skies of Southern England from 10th July until 31st. October 1940.

Young Spitfire pilots were introduced to the aircraft wearing blindfolds and tasked with the job of finding the controls and fathoming out what they did without being able to see.

Interviewed on BBC Radio Solent earlier in the day, the Branch Chaplain, the Reverend Janis Moore, was asked if she had been alive during the Battle of Britain if she would have found the battle to have either  challenged her faith or strengthened it.

She replied it would have done both.

The congregation stayed for a while after the service to enjoy tea and cake supplied by the members.

In a conversation with one member of the congregation after the service I discovered that the 21 foot Maritime Fisher boat 'Alleyna', moored just opposite St. John's, has changed hands.

The new owner has plans for the boat including a change of name, so please watch this space for further details.

Last Sunday, our new Team Rector of Bridport, the Reverend Deb Smith, led the service at St. John's.

This was be Deb's first Sunday in the Bridport Team and I am sure that many people will wish to welcome and meet her.

The first ninety people in Church can be sure of a seat!
