An RNLI team has welcomed a new member to its lifeboat crew.

Lyme Regis RNLI lifeboat crew has been boosted by the addition of Matt Adamson-Drage, age 46.

Matt, a former RAF officer and is now operations manager with Lyme Regis Town Council, has joined the crew as a deputy launching authority.

Matt as a flight lieutenant in the RAF was an aerospace battle manager until retiring last year after 20 years of service.

His role involved co-ordinating battle situations with other services including the Royal Marines.

Matt said: "I am keen to learn about all aspects of sailing and I hope to have my own boat, so it seemed like a natural move to volunteer with the RNLI."

Matt is married to Zishan, deputy town clerk of Axminster, and they have two children, Theo, age four, and Jacob, age seven.

His position within Lyme Regis Town Council was previously held by another member of the lifeboat crew, Elliot Herbert.

Since its foundation in 1824, the RNLI's lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved more than 137,000 lives.

Lyme Regis Lifeboat Station was established in 1998 and is home to the Atlantic 85 class lifeboat.
