Hundreds of fundraisers are all set to make a splash for charity.

Lyme Splash will take tomorrow (Sunday, September 2), raising vital funds for Dorset disability charity, Diverse Abilities.

The charity has, for the first time, teamed up with organisers of the now sold out Lyme Splash 2018 to offer four charity places so local supporters can get swimming.

The 3.15km open swim, now in its third year, takes place around part of the Jurassic Coast, starting in Lyme Regis and finishing in Charmouth.

Lauren McCullough, events manager at Diverse Abilities, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for local supporters to push themselves out of their comfort zone and achieve something spectacular to raise funds for the children and adults living with disabilities in Dorset.”

Entries to the swim sold out in less than a month, and funds raised will help Diverse Abilities to meet the daily cost to run the advice service to provide guidance and support, specialist toys for children with disabilities to play with or a day’s vital medical supplies for the children at the charity’s specialist school.

Chairman of Lyme Splash, Karen Durham-Diggins, said: "We were amazed at how quickly the swim sold out even though we increased the amount of swimmers to 200, it certainly seems Lyme Splash is firmly in the open water swimming communities diary.

"Last year Lyme Splash raised £1000 through swimmers entry fees, sponsorship and raffle, split between four charities: B Sharp, The Marine Theatre, Two Minute Beach Clean and Water Aid."

As well as kind-hearted swimmers taking the plunge in aid of the charity, businesses have provided raffle prizes, with Lyme Regis Boat Building Academy providing a five-day woodworking course worth £625 as the first raffle prize.

River Cottage HQ, The Harbour Inn, Chococo, Herbie's Dino Bar, The Fisherman's Wife, Lyme Rib Rides, Lyme Regis Kayak Hire and The Marine Aquarium have also donated.

If swimming isn’t your thing, Diverse Abilities hosts a wide range of fundraising events throughout the year, including bike rides, skydiving, abseiling and overseas challenges.

Lyme Splash will take place tomorrow, when it will be waved off by the Mayor of Lyme Regis. Check in opens at 9am, with First Wave at 10.25am and Last Wave at 11am.
