Differing weather patterns put visitors off from attending a weekend of events.

The 70th edition of the Shave Cross Marathon took place at Kittys Farm, Shave Cross, with three days of events planned to raise money for three different causes.

A total of 61 runners participated in the mini marathon, which this year was won by Ben Renshaw of Bridport Runners with a time of 28 minutes and 59 seconds, his first win in the marathon since 2013.

Ben was followed by Stephen Barnes of Chard and Ashley Raison of Bridport.

The first lady to cross the line was Eleanor Wood of Shute Vale Axminster, the first veteran male was Phil England of Cattistock, and the first lady veteran was Celia Cohen of Chard.

Coming first in the under 16 boys category was Seth Hall-Nunn of Beaminster, and first in the under 16 girls category was Evie Norton of West Bay.

Winner of the oldest man category was Les Hawkins of Bridport, and winner of the oldest lady was Susanna Raffel of London.

The weekend of events kicked off with a car treasure hunt, which saw more than 20 cars attend, a number similar to previous years.

Unfortunately, both wet and hot weather affected the attendance of both the run and other events planned for the rest of the weekend.

Angela Rabbetts, secretary of Shave Cross Marathon, said: "This year the runners and takings were down, with the hot weather putting people off.

"The dog show was not particularly well supported, with members of the public not wanting to take their dogs out into the heat.

"We also had a coffee morning planned, but due to wet weather, this was postponed."

The money raised at this year's event will go to The Living Tree cancer support group in Bridport in memory of Mrs Burkeman , the former owner of Kittys Farm, who sadly died in March this year, as well as Marshwood Primary School.

Some of last year's left over money will also be used for a defibrillator to be placed at the Shave Cross Inn, Marshwood Vale.

Angela said: "We would like to thank all our helpers, and our sponsors, A.G. Down, Symonds and Sampson, the Johnson family for the lambs and the estate of Mrs Fiona Burkeman for the continued use of the field.

"Thanks also to Steve Forrest for the photographs."
