The letter from Ian Coomber from Templecombe in last week’s paper regarding the new public toilets in Lyme Regis was unfortunately inaccurate.

Mr Coomber was disappointed because he believed the facilities for disabled people were inadequate following a visit to Lyme Regis with his wife, who uses a mobility scooter.

Mr and Mrs Coomber attempted to use a cubicle which is slightly larger than the rest to accommodate the baby-changing facilities.

It includes a few grab rails to help those who might need a bit more
help, but it is not the disabled toilet.

Unfortunately, they seem to have missed the dedicated disabled toilet, which is accessed from a separate door next to the main entrance.

The wheelchair-accessible toilet is accessed using a RADAR key and has all the facilities you would expect, including handles, an alarm pull, a raised toilet pan and seat, a wheelchair turning space, an outward opening door, and a mixer tap with an easy-togrip lever.

As the disabled toilet is accessed via a separate door, it is also accessible
to those with a RADAR key 24 hours-a-day.

It’s a real shame Mr and Mrs Coomber didn’t notice the disabled toilet and left feeling disappointed by the new toilets, but we hope they will return to Lyme Regis and inspect the disabled facilities.

We’re confident they will find high quality facilities to meet all accessibility needs.
