Colourful bunting is strewn across town, which can only mean one thing; Bridport Folk Festival is back.

The festival starts today and will see more than 70 acts perform at venues across the town over three days.

The event is only in its second year but is already a huge fixture on Bridport’s calendar.

This year, things will kick off at The Dagger stage at Bucky Doo Square, with bands performing throughout the day.

There will be music sessions and bands performing at pubs across town as well as a welcome barn dance and a headline gig at the Electric Palace with Richard Digance, to play with support from Eric Sedge.

Saturday will see music, song and dance workshops and performances across various stages - including new additions the Colmers Stage, at the borough gardens, and the Trevett and Gale Stage at the Millennium Green.

Saturday night’s headliner, ALAW, will perform at the Electric Palace with Oka Vanga in support.

South Street will close on Sunday for displays, traders and artists, and a children’s area, festival bar and food stalls will also feature this year.

Organised by Chris Deacon, along with a committee, the festival promises three days of family fun and entertainment.

Mr Deacon said: "We're very excited about it. Sunday will see road closures for dance performances which will be quite spectacular. It's going to be a really colourful, vibrant and exciting array of music and dance and it will give people the opportunity to see things they might not have had the chance to see before. It's going to be fun for all the family and we've pulled out all the stops to make sure people are as comfortable as possible in the hot weather.

"Bridport has always rated very highly for its music scene and over the past few years there has been a folk regeneration."
