Many schools may have been enjoying a snow day but that didn’t stop some youngsters celebrating their favourite books.

Thursday was World Book Day, when lots of schools around the country encourage pupils to dress up as characters from the books that inspire them.

But with the snow, celebrations had to be cancelled in some schools.

Proud parents still sent in pictures of their little literature fans in fancy dress.

Isla Smith, eight and younger sister Emme, five, go to St Mary’s Primary School in Bridport and dressed up as Mrs Twit, from Roald Dahl classic The Twits and Wally from Where’s Wally.

And Phoebe and Freya Bishop, who go to Bridport Primary School, dressed up as The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark and the ladybird from What the Ladybird Heard.

Celebrations at Salway Ash School took place on Monday.
