A REGIONAL electrical wholesaler is expanding into Dorset after acquiring a Bridport company.

South West independent electrical wholesaler, Devondale Electrical, has announced the acquisition of A J Electrical Distributors, based in Bridport.

This is the first Dorset-based branch for the company, which has nine other branches in various locations across Devon and Somerset.

Managing director of Devondale Electrical, Paul Wood said the existing staff at A J Electricals, will remain unchanged.

He said: “Having a presence in Dorset is a crucial part of our growth strategy and we are delighted with this acquisition, which is a win-win scenario.

“The Bridport branch will operate as ‘Devondale trading as A J Electrical Distributors’, with the existing team including managing director Andy Spence, remaining in place. Andy has built up a name for first class customer service in the area and the business is a great fit for Devondale.”

The company claims that for customers, the acquisition will mean access to more products and competitive pricing. In addition, the branch will be able to call on stock in Devondale’s other branches, meaning orders can be fulfilled quicker.

Mr Spence said: “We have a strong reputation in the Bridport and wider Dorset area, and I have no doubt that our customers will benefit from the exceptional customer service of Devondale’s experienced team."

Later in the month, Devondale will be opening a brand-new branch in Weymouth. The branch, in Granby Court, Surrey Close, will be manned by an experienced team including a manager with a background of 29 years in the electrical wholesaling business.

Mr Wood added is please the company is able to open new branches.

He added: “Over the past 18 months we have added two new branches in Paignton and Bideford, extended our Taunton branch and undertaken a major refurbishment in our other branches to reflect our new branding and more modern approach to the electrical wholesale business.

“The new Weymouth branch will grow Devondale’s branch network to 11, enabling us to offer an independent service to many more electricians across the South West.”
