HOWZAT for a turnout...

Some 120 children from across West Dorset took part in a cricket festival at Dorchester.

The children were from Weymouth's Budmouth Technology College, Beaminster School, Sir John Colfox School in Bridport and Lyme Regis's The Woodroffe School.

Simon Talbot, who is head coach and director of Wessex Cricket School, said: "What we're trying to do is give them an introduction to cricket and get them playing a game that's easy to understand, easy to organise and doesn't need much equipment.

"The kids get a lot of enjoyment out of the game and the good thing about inter-cricket, like with quick cricket, is they get lots of goes at bowling, lots of goes at batting and lots of goes at fielding so you're totally encompassed in the game.

"What it does is it gets the kids doing healthy things.

"They're not sat behind a computer, they're not watching the TV, They're outside in the fresh air playing the national game."
