A COMPANY is appealing for apprentices to support the expansion of its carpet factory.

Axminster Carpets wants apprentices to join its weaving and production teams as its factory. The company has seen growth across all markets, both in the UK and export and now needs to recruit support expansion.

The company has carpeted thousands of homes and properties, as well as Twickenham Stadium, The Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Household. The company prides itself on being a global brand.

Dave Knight, managing director of Axminster Carpets, sees apprenticeships as key to the success of the business.

He said: "As we grow, we are committed to weaving our carpets in Axminster and want to strengthen our links with the local community.

"It is essential that we safeguard the craft of carpet making in Axminster and ensure that Axminster retains its world famous reputation for fine carpets. An apprenticeship is a perfect way for us to ensure the skill is passed to the next generation and support young people on the journey to a really rewarding career.”

Mr Knight added: "Our apprentices get to experience all aspects of carpet manufacturing - from weaving and wool technology through to quality control.

"Our apprentice programme is established with many of our current weavers learning their trade in this way”

Patryk Proszowski recently completed an apprenticeship at Axminster Carpets and is pleased he has a career plan.

He said: "It’s a real opportunity to work for such a great company.

"It’s varied and interesting and have been lucky enough to help weave carpet for the Royal Household. It’s a hands-on role which I enjoy and am now working in the engineering department.

"I’ve also been able to finish school and now have a clear career plan so I can see how I can work to my ultimate goal.”

Axminster Carpets remains a family business and is committed to using the finest wool, building on a tradition started more than 250 years ago.

More recently, the company claims it is building a reputation for innovation in carpet weaving and design which brings it into the heart of interior design.
