The Bridport and District Stamp and Postcard Club meeting was held on September 19 at the The Elms, Charmouth, and featured members giving their displays on ‘The Great War 1914-16: The first two years’.

Seven members gave eight displays on subjects such as the battles at sea, the war in Russia and what is now Poland, submarine war, postcards from the front line, the postal services from Britain to the battle sites, and German prisoners in Dorchester.

The chairman Reg Brown informed the meeting that Peggy Phillips, who had been responsible for providing refreshment for some 25 years had decided to retire from that role. A selection of members present carried out this work at future meetings.

The results of the Somerset and Dorset Federation Annual Competition held at Poole were now on display, five members of the club took part. Total entries in the competition numbers 50, 17 were from Bridport. Seven of 18 first, second and third positions, including 1, 2, and 3 in the postcard category, went to Bridport members.

The next club meeting will be held at St John Ambulance Hall, Bridport, on October 3 at 7:30pm. Entry and refreshments are free. Members will compete in the Annual Postcard Competition.
