AN AWARD-WINNING quintet known for performing infectious rhythms from the Brazilian capital will appear at three Dorset venues this January.

Alvorada are the UK's leading performers of choro, a genre of instrumental music from Rio de Janeiro. The five-piece group is comprised of top musicians from London and Brazil, whose diverse backgrounds, including jazz and classical, lend the quintet a unique edge.

Formed in 2016, Alvorada have performed at festivals and venues across the UK and Europe, as well as appearing on BBC Radio 3 and Jazz FM. In 2019, they were named Best Brazilian Act in the LUKAS UK Latin Awards.

The quintet's debut album, First Light, was released earlier this year and contains both choro classics and original works, combining the sounds of samba and forró with funk and tango tunes.

In partnership with Artsreach, Alvorada will perform at Wootton Fitzpaine Village Hall on Thursday, January 23, at Portesham Village Hall on Friday, January 24, and at Chetnole Village Hall on Saturday, January 25. All performances begin at 7.30pm.
