A CLASSIC Christmas tale and one of the most beloved books in the English language will be performed in Bridport.

A one-man A Christmas Carol will be performed on Friday, December 6 from 7.30pm.

Since the first publication of A Christmas Carol in 1843 it has delighted readers and audience in many readings, productions, adaptations and performances.

Dickens himself gave more than 100 public reading of his work between 1852 and 1870, and this astounding one-man performance by actor and writer Nick Wilkes will follow that tradition.

He said: “It’s the most wonderful story of heartbreak and redemption, this cold-hearted man brought back to life through the haunting of three spirits. It’s a delight and privilege to perform, and utterly magical for the audience to see Dickens ‘himself’ performing it."

For more than two decades Nick Wilkes has appeared in countless productions both in the UK and overseas working in classical and contemporary drama, musical, pantomime and weekly rep, working alongside names as diverse as Charlton Heston and Simon Callow through to Keith Harris and Orville the Duck!

Nick was the first writer in residence at Malvern Theatres since George Bernard Shaw and has written and produced 24 of his own plays to date. These have played in many venues around the country, from small studio theatres and larger theatres to the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford upon Avon.

Intensely dramatic and profoundly heart-warming, A Christmas Carol is feel-good, festive storytelling at its finest.
