HAVE you ever considered the history of the Literary and Scientific Institute in Bridport?

In this illustrated talk, architectural historian Dr. Tim Connor re-enlightens us to the varied, rich and often surprising history of one of the town's most illustrious cornerstones, The Literary and Scientific Institute (LSi).

As a repeat of a previous sell-out talk, Tim explores the past of an institute that started as a hub for mechanics in 1833, before becoming a canteen for Second World War troops and then a library. Detailing the winding story that led it to become the Grade II* listed building it is today, we walk through the history of the heart of our town.

Tim is author of a complete history which charts this building's intriguing past and brings us right up to date with how the building underwent a major renovation to bring it back to life. Hosting workspaces, meeting rooms, a permanent office, an evening venue for presentations and talks such as this, and a fantastic café, the Literary and Scientific Institute is where it is today thanks to where Bridport has (and hasn’t) been in the last two centuries.

Come and learn about the town we hold dear, and the monuments to moments in history we walk past daily.
