AS the countdown to the new look Bridport Mind Fest continues, residents are being urged to get creative.

Mind fest, now known as the Sunflower Project, supports mental wellbeing and raises money for people suffering from a mental health crisis.

People are being asked to make sunflowers that can be displayed in the streets as part of the festival.

It will be held from Friday, October 11 to Sunday, October 13 and features a talk from TV presenter Chris Packham and a performance by the Chris Jagger Band, among other events.

Yellow is the colour of National Mental Health Day on October 10 and as a result Bridport is turning yellow.

Youngsters at the Sir John Colfox Academy are making large sunflowers mounted on bamboo cane stalks that will be displayed in Bucky Doo square and outside the Chapel in the Garden

Ra Zamora, project manager and producer, said: "This is a creative aspiration, a project that everyone can take part in. I’ve asked school pupils to make large sunflowers mounted on bamboo cane stalks.

"Attached to each flower will be a large label written with what makes that person happy on one side and what makes that person sad on the other.

"Next year I hope this idea will be taken up by schools across Dorset and beyond! The project is being tutored a bit by me but mainly by the lovely and enthusiastic head of art Louise Burgess."

The sunflowers will adorn Bridport over the weekend of October 11 to 13.
