TWO of the UK's most talented young musicians will perform in Dorset as part of the autumn programme by local arts charity, Concerts in the West.

Cellist Nathaniel Boyd and pianist Simon Lane will lead a concert at Bridport Arts Centre on Friday, October 4, from 11am.

An internationally recognised chamber musician and soloist, Nathaniel Boyd has appeared at the world's leading concert halls and has won numerous prizes from his work with the Navarra String Quartet, including the Outstanding Young Artist Award at Cannes in 2008. His recent projects have included a Purcell Room recital with pianist Alexander Boyd and a BBC Proms appearance with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Nathaniel has been the cellist in the Atalanta Piano Quartet since 2012.

Simon Lane has gained recognition for his compelling and sensitive performances, and has performed with world-famous musicians including Danielle de Niese, Allan Clayton and Guy Johnston. He recently released an album with cellist Philip Higham, which was selected as Strad Magazine's CD of the month. Simon also plays frequently in venues such as London's Wigmore Hall and the Berlin Philharmonie, and his recent festival appearances include the Bachfest Leipzig, La Festival de Musique de Menton, the Dubrovnik and Ljubljana Summer Festivals, and the Leeds Lieder, Ryedale and Lichfield Festivals in the UK.

Catherine Maddocks, founder and director of Concerts for the West, said: "We are delighted to welcome back Nathaniel Boyd, an internationally recognised chamber musician and soloist, who we heard in our 2018 season when he came to play with the Albion Quartet. We are also pleased to invite back Simon Lane, who performed for us in 2015."

The duo will perform the Beethoven Sonata No. 4 in C major and the Chopin Sonata in G minor.

Concerts in the West is a small arts charity, which organises and promotes an annual series of high quality classical and baroque concerts at regional venues in Somerset, Dorset and Devon. The organisation's two key aims involve supporting young musicians by providing them with opportunities to practice and perform their repertoire; and giving West Country residents unique and affordable access to a high standard of international music.

The concert at Bridport Arts Centre will run from 11am until noon, with coffee included with admission. Tickets are £12 for adults, £5 for students or free for accompanied under-12s. To book, visit the Bridport Arts Centre website or contact the box office.
