THE Ocean Film Festival World Tour is set to arrive at Weymouth Pavilion on Tuesday, October 8, with a brand new collection of ocean-themed movies.

The event involves a selection of short films telling seafaring stories from both above and below the water's surface.

Tour director Nell Teasdale said: "From surfers to fisherman, marine scientists to artists, these films feature fascinating characters who have dedicated their lives to the sea’s salt spray. This is your chance to dip your toes into the wonders of the big blue – from the comfort of a cinema seat!”

One of the films set to be screened is A Peace Within, which follows extreme artist Philip Gray as he ventures below the surface to paint Mexico's cenotes - clear water subterranean pools viewed by the ancient Mayans as gateways to the afterlife. Another highlight is I Am Fragile, a short film which showcases the landscapes and wildlife of the remote Arctic. Shot across 6,000km from West Greenland to Canada, the screening guarantees to inspire all those who watch it to protect this wild yet fragile region.

The festival, which originated in Australia, will visit 35 locations in the UK this autumn. It aims to inspire people to explore, respect, enjoy and protect the world's oceans, and is now in its sixth year of touring. For more information and to watch a trailer, visit www.oceanfilmfestival.co.uk.

The screening at Weymouth Pavilion begins at 7.30pm. Tickets are £14.50 for adults or £13 for concessions, available from the pavilion website or box office.
