GET ready for a season of culture, art and history with the East Dorset Heritage Trust's autumn programme.

The autumn schedule boats a huge array of walks, talks, workshops and activities, giving everyone the chance to try their hand at something new.

Most of the events take place at Allendale House in Wimborne but some involve excursions to different Dorset locations.

Learn about the tales of Dorset County Prison in a talk by Brian Bates on October 4, who will divulge some of the fascinating stories of those awaiting imprisonment, transportation or the gallows.

On October 25, Friends of the Trust will be treated to a minibus tour of Portland, paying visit to the museum before enjoying a circular walk including Rufus Castle and Ope Cove.

Further afield, hear the extraordinary story of the Bankes Family of Corfe Castle and Kingston Lacy in a talk by Julian Black at Allendale House in Wimborne on November 6, or soak up the landscape in a guided walk along sections of the Stour Valley on November 14.

For those looking for a spot of brain training, sign up to one of the courses being held at Allendale House. Dabble in art history with courses in the café culture of Paris or the artists of Montparnasse, or learn the art of writing for pleasure with John Jenkins. Lessons in French, Spanish and Italian are also running, with classes ranging from beginner level to advanced.
