A CRITICALLY acclaimed play based upon a classic novel will be performed at Bridport Arts Centre on Tuesday, July 23.
Dalloway by Elton Townend-Jones is based upon Virginia Woolf's Mrs Dalloway.
It is being brought to the stage by Dyad Productions following the success of 2018’s Orlando.
1923: The war is over. While Clarissa Dalloway prepares a party in Westminster, Septimus Smith is diagnosed with shell-shock; their memories and dreams intertwining with those of 15 other disparate souls, this hot blue day in June.
Conjuring the hopes and regrets of middle- and upper-class London, Dyad’s adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s celebrated map of hearts and minds offers a magical and compellingly feminist response to the aftermath of the First World War. Written and directed by Elton Townend Jones. Performed by Rebecca Vaughan.
Dalloway was a huge hit at Edinburgh 2014, playing to packed and appreciative houses that included the Dutch Royal Family. In 2016, the production’s sound design was exhibited at the V & A, London.
Dyad Productions creates, produces and tours classic theatre with an innovative and contemporary emphasis. Previous works, Austen’s Women and I, Elizabeth were five-star successes at Edinburgh and Adelaide in 2009/2010 and 2010/2011, with Orlando, The Diaries of Adam and Eve, Female Gothic, The Unremarkable Death of Marilyn Monroe, Dalloway, Jane Eyre: An Autobiography garnering five-star reviews at Edinburgh between 2011-2018.
