TALENTED pianist Clare Hammond will be entertaining audiences at Bridport Arts Centre on Friday, July 5.

Clare is recognised for the virtuosity and authority of her performances.

Her powerful programme will include the world premiere of Michael Zev Gordon’s Diary Pieces, as well as sonatas by Josef Mysliveček and Rachmaninov.

Acclaimed as a pianist of “amazing power and panache” (The Telegraph), Clare has developed a “reputation for brilliantly imaginative concert programmes” (BBC Music Magazine). She also played the young Miss Shepherd in the film adaptation of The Lady in the Van by Alan Bennett.

Recently, Clare has performed Panufnik with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra (Jacek Kaspszyk), Roxburgh with the BBC Symphony Orchestra (Michael Seal), and Chopin with the Philharmonia at the Royal Festival Hall (George Fenton).

Her most recent disc for BIS records, of music by Kenneth Hesketh, has been widely praised with the Observer describing her as a “star interpreter of contemporary music”. Her previous release, Etude, received unanimous critical acclaim for its “unfaltering bravura and conviction” from Gramophone, while BBC Music Magazine said that “this array of wizardry is not for the faint hearted”. Her discography includes world premiere recordings of over 20 works.

Founder and director of Concerts in the West, Catherine Hodgson, said: “We are delighted to welcome Clare Hammond to the depths of the West Country. She has a great interest in contemporary piano music and on this tour she will premiere Michael Zev Gordon's new work Diary Pieces.”

The Bridport Arts Centre programme will consist of Josef Mysliveček Sonata No 3 in A major; Michael Zev Gordon Diary Pieces (2018) World Premiere; Schumann Humoreske in B flat major, Op 20; Rachmaninov Piano Sonata No 2 in B flat minor, Op 36 (1931 version).

There will be a donation envelope at all concerts in place of the usual raffle (donations are of course optional).
