COME together for a family story in the courtyard of the Bridport LSi.

Family Storytime with The Flying Monkeys takes place on Saturday, May 25 from 11am to 12pm.

The first session at the end of April attracted more than 30 children and carers and the courtyard proved to be the perfect setting with floor mats and cushions for comfort and great sound and light.

It's suitable for children aged between three and eight and their families, this relaxed session will entertain youngsters with stories told, not showed.

Storyteller Rose Allwork has more than 20 years' experience as an early years teacher in schools and day nurseries, and 10 years as a professional storyteller. She has told stories for children in schools, children’s centres, cafés and her local farmer’s market, at festivals and at private parties.

Storytelling, for her, is about creating a moment of community; a shared experience and an imaginative journey that storyteller and listeners undertake together. Children of all ages respond to the immediacy and energy of a told story – they become entranced listeners and active participants.

The sessions are tailored to children from 2-6 years. They include a mixture of stories, songs, and rhymes and the children are encouraged to get involved in telling and acting out their own stories.

The stories come from a variety of cultures and traditions, comprising folk tales, fairy tales, popular classics and stories made up on the spot.
