SEE amazing displays of rope tying at the Nothe Fort from next weekend.

The International Guild of Knot Tyers (IGKT) is being hosted at the Weymouth attraction from May 10 to 12.

Visitors to the fort will be able to discover the world of knots, see displays and engage with the guild.

All members of the guild will be welcome to the fort and will not be charged an entrance fee.

Claire Young, events manager for Nothe Fort, said: “I’m so excited about this event, which is a first for Nothe Fort and I have been very tied up with the organisation of this international event.

"I am pleased to say so far things have progressed without a hitch. Not knowing the difference between a sheep shank and a slip knot, I’m sure this will be learning experience for all the staff and volunteers at the Fort.”

The International Guild of Knot Tyers is an association of people with interests in knots and knotting techniques of all kinds.

They have more than 1,000 members worldwide, from all walks of life, including academics, surgeons, sailors, sportsmen and women, scouters, magicians, farmers, miners and accountants. Membership is open to anyone interested in knotting (whether expert or simply hoping to learn from others).

They are an educational non-profit making organisation (constituted as a UK Charity, No. 802153) dedicated to furthering interest in practical, recreational and theoretical aspects of knotting. Their aim is to preserve traditional knotting techniques and promote the development of new techniques for new material and applications. They attend public events to advertise the Guild and its work, and conduct talks and demonstrations by arrangement with interested groups. They keep in touch with each other by correspondence, by holding regular meetings and exhibitions at both international and regional levels.

Nothe Fort, with its commanding views over Weymouth Harbour, Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour is continuing to develop its facilities and looking to attract new community events and private hire.
