THE life of the poet W.B. Yeats will be celebrated at the next Bridport Story Café this weekend.

In The Deep Heart's Core, a mystic cabaret from the works of W.B. Yeats, can be seen at the Lyric Theatre in Bridport on Saturday, March 16 at 7.30pm.

It's said to be a night to remember, a theatrical song cycle and a storytelling journey through the romantic imagination and the national soul of Ireland.

Conceived and composed by storyteller, writer, folklorist and instrumentalist Joseph Sobol, “In the Deep Heart’s core” follows the life of the Celtic visionary poet and activist, William Butler Yeats, moving through dreams and heartbreaks towards ultimate spiritual triumph.

As Yeats said: “I wanted all my poetry to be spoken on a stage or sung."

The first public performance in England of this critically-acclaimed show will feature the composer, storyteller, writer, folklorist and instrumentalist Joseph Sobol. He is an artist and scholar of wide-ranging accomplishments, currently Director of the Centre for Storytelling at the University of Wales.

Joseph will be accompanied by three musicians - vocalist Daria Kulesh, a rising star on the UK folk scene, with her striking voice and strong Russian and Ingush heritage, Marina Osman on the piano and Matt Tarling on fiddle.

Praise for the show has included: “A rapturous weave of the irresistible sounds of Irish music and the steely but lyrical magic that animates the words of one of Ireland’s most celebrated poets …”
