AN arts centre has announced the appointment of two new honorary patrons.

Tony Hall, Baron Hall of Birkenhead, and his wife, Lady Cynthia Hall have agreed to become supporters of Bridport Arts Centre, both of whom will bring a wealth of experience.

Lord Hall is currently director general at the BBC and has previously worked as the chief executive of the Royal Opera House.

Lady Cynthia has had a successful career in education and now a trustee of the Globe Theatre in London.

Curtis Fulcher, director of Bridport Arts Centre, said: "This is very exciting news and a great plus for the arts centre to get such high profile honorary patrons.

"The role of the honorary patron is to support the arts centre through increasing its profile, fundraising or assisting with advice on development.

"Both Lord and Lady Hall have visited the arts centre and commented on what a full and exciting programme it has."

Lord and Lady Hall will join other honorary patrons, which include Felicity Fairburn, Mrs Anthony Pitt-Rivers CVO DL, Lynne Reid Banks, and cllr Sandra Brown MBE.

Lord Tony Hall said: "We're both delighted to help this gem in the middle of Bridport.

"Their plans and programmes are rightly ambitious, and exciting. It's a privilege to be involved."
