AN author from Bridport is inviting people to celebrate the contribution of the elderly.

Alan Heeks, age 70, has invited "elders" to attend his Elders' Circle at Hazel Hill Wood, near Salisbury, to explore a new vision for Elderhood and has invited 'elders' to share their experiences and insights around how to grow older happily and healthily.

The event, which will take place this Sunday (October, 7) from 2pm until 4pm, coincides with Silver Sunday and Alan's new book.

Alan's new book, 'Not Fade Away: Staying Happy When You're Over 64', invites those in their sixties and beyond to grow through the challenges of getting older and make the most of their vintage years.

Silver Sunday highlights the blight of loneliness affecting many older people in the UK, and celebrates their contribution to society, promoting their happiness and wellbeing.

Alan said: "My vision for a useful contemporary form of Elderhood is to see it as an invitation to connect with the mature wisdom in yourself, and choose your own vision for Elderhood that brings out the best of the unique qualities you have to offer.

"In the circle we'll be looking at what Elderhood means for each of us, and how you can best move into it."

The Elders' Circle is part of a wider 'Multi-Generational Conservation Weekend' taking place at Hazel Hill Wood from Friday, October 5 until Sunday, October 7.

Anyone aged 50 or over can participate in the circle on Sunday afternoon and others of any age are invited to listen and observe.

The circle, which is free to attend, is open to people who haven't participated in the conservation weekend.
