THE Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis is hosting a Guitars on the Beach fundraiser on Saturday.

The Guitars on the Boards event is raising money for this year’s Guitars on the Beach (GOTB), the UK’s largest guitar festival, which takes place on June 16.

GOTB sees hundreds of guitarists of all ages and abilities come together to simultaneously play together a selection of well-known songs and form Britain’s biggest band, performing on the beach in Lyme Regis in Dorset.

This year the theme will be a tribute to rock artists who have passed away in 2017 - including Chuck Berry, Tom Petty and AC/DC’s Malcolm Young.

There will also be special tributes to Buddy Holly, to mark the 60th anniversary of the release of Rave On, and a big nod to another much-missed guitar legend, Rory Gallagher

GOTB holds the UK record for the biggest band, set in 2014 when a reported 3,000 guitarists turned up to play along to the Deep Purple classic Smoke On The Water, led by Deep Purple’s front man Ian Gillan himself.

The fundraising night this weekend promises to be an all-hits, all-dancing, rock, and pop fun night.

It stars Lyme Regis’s latest new band Dream Phaser, the GOTB House Band, and surprise special guests.
