A LYME Regis author has teamed up with a cafe owner to organise a poetry night to keep locals entertained during the chillier months.

Tracey West from Magic Oxygen publishers has joined forces with Keian Gillet, and will host the first 'Vittles and Verse' night at the Gallery Cafe on Saturday (10) from 7pm until 9pm.

Tracey, a cheeky stand-up poet, will compere the event. The author and publisher delivered a handful of pieces on the Seafront Stage during Lyme Folk Weekend, and also went on to perform a shortened set at the Gallery Cafe during the event.

She said: "Poetry is a very interesting form of art and if you challenge yourself to writing a bit, particularly during a time of personal struggle - it can be a powerful way to soothe a troubled mind.

"I found myself writing humorous and dark ditties during my turbulent divorce and to be honest, I'd never really penned any before. I had a head full of words that were desperate to stop rolling around; poems offered a perfect solution and before I knew it, I had enough for a whole book.

"'Poetry of Divorce for Women' came out in 2013 and I give some of the royalties to the West Dorset Women's Refuge and the Women's Action Network Dorset, who work very closely with them."

Vittles and Verse will deliver an evening of delicious seasonal soup and bread from Keian, all washed down with stand up performances from any poet that wants to come along and read their work. Poets will be compensated with a slice of mouthwatering rhyming cake from Keian too.

Keian said: "We announced the event officially last week and asked lyrical Lymies to come either as an audience member, or performer.

"We've got a great line up for Saturday (10) but we do have a few slots left we'd love to fill'.
