YOUR wedding countdown starts here! There may seem like a million things to do, but with the help of our handy checklist, you won’t forget a thing!

12 months to go:

  • Have the “budget” discussion – decide how much you want to spend and what kind of wedding you want
  • Set the date and book the ceremony and reception venues
  • Make sure you take out wedding insurance to cover you if your dress is damaged or the photos don’t turn out

11 months to go:

  • Send out “save the date” cards
  • Book your photographer and videographer
  • Book your caterer and a band or DJ for the reception

10 months to go:

  • Choose your bridesmaids, best man, ushers and other attendants
  • Decide on the rings
  • Book your honeymoon and take out travel insurance

9 months to go:

  • Find a florist
  • Decide on the menu and drinks
  • Choose the bridesmaid’s outfits

8 months to go:

  • Discuss readings and music for the ceremony
  • Order your invitations, place cards and other stationery

7 months to go:

  • Book your transport to the ceremony venue and from the ceremony to the reception, if they are at different locations
  • Order your cake
  • Choose and order favours for the tables

6 months to go:

  • Order the groom and ushers’ outfits
  • Choose gifts for your parents and other members of the wedding party, such as bridesmaids and ushers
  • Order your rings
  • Decide on your order of service

5 months to go:

  • Book your hairdresser and make appointments for hair and make-up trials

4 months to go:

  • Renew your passports with your new name
  • Make sure you’ve booked any inoculations you may need for your honeymoon
  • Arrange your hen and stag dos

3 months to go:

  • Set up your gift list
  • Have your pre-wedding hair cut and colour
  • Go for your make-up trial
  • If you’re getting married in a church, attend the reading of the banns
  • Arrange a hotel for your wedding night, if needed

2 months to go:

  • Send our your invitations
  • Check the rings are sorted
  • Try on your whole outfit and make sure you have everything you need – including jewellery and underwear
  • Book any nail or fake tan appointments if necessary

1 month to go:

  • Chase up any outstanding RSVPs and confirm the final numbers with your caterers
  • Do the seating plan
  • Discuss any special requirements with your band or DJ
  • Order honeymoon currency
  • Confirm the shot list with your photographer
  • Wear in your wedding shoes
  • Set up wedding rehearsals

The Big Day:

  • Ask family and friends to organise that your suitcases are sent to your first night otel; that your wedding dress and groom's suit are returned if need be, or at least have them packed and taken away, which also applies to weddin presents.
