BLUESNIGHT
JC and Angelina Grimshaw
Dorchester Arts Centre
April 19
Review by: Lewis A Harris

A VERY pleasant evening was enjoyed by the audience of this brother and sister duo.

Natives of the Isle of Wight, they turned on a wonderful concert of blues, jazz, folk and country.

Their own numbers made up most of the concert and what a voice Angelina has.

If it was a smoky languid blues it was great.

If it was a 1920's jazz she had the right nuances and inflections!

JC played three guitars and mandolin including slide and vocals.

The seamless meshing of rhythm and lead guitar was superb.

'Going Away' with guitar and mandolin was a great start, 'Far from Me', a jazz number featured those husky vocals and excellent guitar picking.

The guitar interplay and chops and harmony vocals on 'Show some Kindness' were quite beautiful!

A full programme and superb encore with 'Fare Thee Well' rhythm and mandolin played at top speed - absolutely fantastic!
