History

It is believed that the Saxon settlement which became Marlborough started around The Green, with a sheep fair held there until 1893. It is now a lovely place to sit and watch the world go by enjoying a view which has changed little in hundreds of years. Located 2 minutes from the hustle and bustle of the thriving High Street it has long been one of the most sought after addresses in Marlborough.

On April the 28th 1653 a fire tore through many of the properties in the High Street, Silverless Street and The Green. Evidence of a much older property can be seen in the cellar of number 32 and undoubtedly many of the timbers through the property date back to the Elizabethan age. There is a theory that what is now the hall was once the access to the rear garden, with doors off right and left into separate properties. Whatever is the truth, what stands here today is one of the most attractive period houses in Marlborough with a silvered Oak frame inset with lime white panels under a clay tiled roof; a picture postcard cottage with roses if not around the door, next to it!

The property
