A LYME Regis businessman has been recognised after his company scooped a regional award for best kitchen or bathroom project.

Joe Mew, director of Mew Developments, claimed the award from the Federation of Master Builders (FMB).

Any projects entered into the awards by the builder must be backed up by the customer – giving home owners the opportunity to support those building companies that have delivered exceptional results.

Mew Developments picked up the award for its work on a kitchen installed in a timber-framed building on a cliffside location in Lyme Regis. The kitchen is designed to match the contemporary lurch-clad building with simple and stylish finishings. Light has been used to maximum effect to complete the aesthetic.

Mr Mew holidayed in Lyme Regis and Axminster as a young boy and moved to the area more than 20 years ago.

He said: "We are over the moon to have won this prestigious award.

"It has only been achieved by a lot of hard work from the entire team, not only ourselves but the entire design team and clients. It’s great to have our work recognised by the FMB as being worthy of this accolade. We can now only strive to go even further.”

Mew Developments was selected by the region’s judges to win the kitchen or bathroom project award and will now go through to compete in the national finals for the chance to win the UK category title. The ceremony will be held at the Intercontinental Park Lane Hotel in London on September 15, and be hosted by TV presenter and building enthusiast Nick Knowles.

Phil Hodge, director FMB south, said: “The Master Builder Awards give the FMB the opportunity to celebrate a job well done and for clients to say thank you to their builders.

"For the building industry it is an opportunity to celebrate all that is good about small local builders and their importance to the UK economy.

“Time and time again we have been impressed with just how far these builders will go to ensure their client is happy. It is this dedication that we want to celebrate. Mew Developments should feel justly proud of this achievement in winning and we wish the company every success in the national competition.”

If Mew Developments wins the overall Master Builder Awards title, selected from all category winners, the company will receive a new Vauxhall light commercial vehicle worth up to £20,000. Their clients will also receive a cheque for £1,000.
