Bees looking to finish on a high in season's climax
Last match?: Caretaker-boss Mark Lock could oversee his final game in charge at Longwell Green
Last match?: Caretaker-boss Mark Lock could oversee his final game in charge at Longwell Green

BRIDPORT'S uninspiring campaign reaches its climax tomorrow (7.45pm) with a tough Toolstation Western League Division One clash at Longwell Green Sports.

Caretaker-manager Mark Lock will be hoping it's third time lucky for his side, who once again travel to Avon after two fruitless outings at Oldland Abbotonians and Portishead in the last fortnight.

Following an encouraging start to Lock's tenure, results and performances have subsided as the continuous defensive frailties that haunted previous incumbent Royston Davies resurfaced.

Saturday's defeat to Portishead extended the winless streak to six matches and epitomised the west Dorset side's struggle for consistency this season.

Lock's aspirations to become the club's next permanent manager are well-publicised and a positive result will enhance his credentials, with chairman Adrian Scadding eager to administer a swift appointment at the season's close.

Conversely, defeat will sour his ambitions and with Longwell Green in the midst of an excellent run of form, which includes three wins in five unbeaten matches, they may prove a stern obstacle to overcome.

The Bristol-based side have enjoyed a respectably sedate campaign compared to their embattled rivals, and the 3-2 victory registered at St Mary's Field in December was one of 18 this season.

A repeat result will ensure Longwell Green finish in the upper echelon of the league and moreover provide the club's loyal supporters with something to savour.

Neither Ryan Hayter nor Jon Ritchie is available for the Bees, although Chris Skinner, who netted four goals for the Reserves on Saturday, is rewarded with a promotion to the first team and should get a chance to showcase his prowess.

Nonetheless, boss Lock, who could be taking the reigns for the final time tonight, conceded that his threadbare squad is under pressure to perform.

He said: We need to improve on Saturday's display and it would be great to sign-off with a win in our last game.'' Chris Skinner deserves a chance following his success at the weekend so I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do for us.''
