Trev’s frustration as Bridport slide

SAW RED: Matt Condliffe was sent off at Winterbourne
TREVOR Senior has revealed his frustration after seeing his Bees tumble down the Toolstation Western Premier Division table.
A month ago, Bridport sat third with 10 points from their opening five fixtures but since then they have picked up just two further points and subsequently slipped to 11th spot, much to their manager’s disappointment.
He said: “It’s just disappointing because we have gone from being fifth to 11th in the space of a week.
“In the last three games we have picked up just two points but if we had taken our chances we could quite easily have taken seven or nine – but that’s the way it goes sometimes.
“I’m disappointed but so are the lads.”
Saturday saw the Bees’ first-ever visit to Winterbourne end in despair.
Not only did Bridport fall to a 3-0 defeat but they were forced to play half the match with only 10 men after Matt Condliffe’s dismissal.
Reflecting on a bad day at the office, Senior added: “We didn’t play very well at all, the first half especially.
“We did not get going and no disrespect to Winterbourne, although they won the game they weren’t particularly great.
“Both teams cancelled each other out to start with. The best chance we had was a Chris Senior shot from 25 yards which the keeper made a great save from to tip it over.
“At the other end, their efforts were all from range and well off target.
“But 10 minutes before half-time they got a corner from the left, the cross evaded everyone and hit Chris on the leg and went in for an unfortunate own goal.
“Then, right on half-time, Matt went in for a tackle with one of their players and we got the free-kick. Their legs were caught up in each other’s and as he went to get up, Matt tried to shake the guy’s leg away but caught him in the face and got a straight red.
“Another one of their players reacted by grabbing Matt by the throat and it all kicked off a bit. However, the guy who grabbed him by the throat got away with it.
“Even with 10 men I felt we had a chance of getting something out of the game but when Ben Clarke appeared to be fouled on halfway and the referee didn’t give it, they broke and scored with a soft goal.
“Chris then got brought down in the box for a clear penalty but the referee didn’t give it and we felt hard done by.
“We had a couple more efforts but they got a third in the last few minutes.
“We worked hard enough in the second half but the damage was done, especially with us being down to 10 men.”
Bridport are on the road again this Saturday as they visit Cadbury Heath (3pm).
