Don’t waste fine start warns Bees' boss Senior

BOSS Trevor Senior has warned Bridport not to let their fine start to the season go to waste.

The Bees currently lie third in the Toolstation Western Premier Division after picking up 10 points in their opening six games but after disappointing defeat at Street last weekend, their determined boss is now after an immediate reaction.

Senior, whose side host Sherborne Town in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase on Saturday (3pm), said: “I am happy with the start we have made and it is certainly better than I expected after how pre-season went. However, we cannot just drop down again now.

“We have set a standard and the key now is to try and maintain that. I don’t want to see us just let things just got to waste.”

Senior was left with mixed emotions after the loss against the Cobblers.

His Bridport side produced some of the best football they have played so far this season but they were unable to convert it into goals and paid the price.

The Bees’ chief added: “For the first 25 minutes we played really well. We knocked it around and created two or three opportunities and forced several corners.

“Ben Clarke saw a shot turned around a post and Chris Senior nearly converted from a corner but just couldn’t get enough power on it.

“In fact, it looked like we were in complete control but we then started to give the ball away and Street capitalised on it by taking the lead just before half-time.

“One of their forwards broke away and unfortunately his waist-high shot across goal rebounded into the net off the stomach of Ryan Hayter for an own goal.

“After the break, we then came out and started to knock it around well again while Street held a continuous threat on the break.

“In the end they grabbed a second with a fine looping header from a cross which gave Sam Filkins no chance. It was a great goal and I could have no qualms about that at all.

“Just before that, Chris Clarke saw a snapshot go just past a post and in the closing stages we had a couple of chances too but we just couldn’t force one in.

“It was disappointing to lose but on the whole the performance was good and there will be times this season where we don’t play as well as that and still come away with something.”
